CUPRA has presented the production version of the Born, its first 100% electric car. At 4.32 meters long, it is based on Volkswagen's MEB platform and shares a large number of its components with that brand's ID.3 model.
CUPRA Electric Car has announced CO 2 neutral manufacturing, good dynamic performance and a high technological degree for the Born. It has engines of between 150 and 231 HP of power that allow acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.6 seconds in the best of cases.
The autonomy can reach up to 536 km according to the WLTP homologation cycle and the recharging power up to 125 kW. This car, which has been developed in Barcelona, will begin to be produced in September 2021. Its price will initially start from 38,610 euros. It will be available by contract subscription in 2022.
The CUPRA Born has a design for the rest of the manufacturer's products. The front features slim, triangular LED headlights with integrated daytime running lights. These elements communicate indirectly through a small space (where you can read "CUPRA") between the hood, which reaches a relatively low position and exhibits small folds on both sides of the signature logo and the bumper. Front, simple but aggressive and with a large integrated air intake.
On the side, there are a specific set of 18 "to 20" wheels., a roof that seems to float on the C-pillar, some skirts painted in a different colour from the bodywork and a very marked waistline. At the same time, a small spoiler defines the rear; some pilots joined together by a strip of LED and a lower diffuser.
Inside the cabin, the Born has a multi-volume dashboard in whose upper area there are two screens: a main and touch screen, 12 inches, for the multimedia system, which is slightly oriented towards the driver, and another, 5 inches, which acts as an instrument panel and moves together with the steering column when the steering wheel position is adjusted (it has a satellite on/off buttons and quick access to driving modes ).
Below such a plane is an aluminium trim with the air conditioning vents at both ends and below it. As with the exterior, the cabin is decorated with some details painted in a tone reminiscent of copper. The two selectable upholsteries (standard and extra cost) are made from recycled materials.
Among the most significant standard equipment of the Born is multifunction infotainment compatible with Apple CarPlay or Android. Auto, connected services with downloadable applications, OTA updates and remote access through CUPRA CONNECT, a B mode to maximize energy recovery in decelerations, a trunk with 385 litres of volume, a customizable ambient lighting system, as well as a wide range of active safety assistants that were already installed in other company cars. There are also many options: bucket-type sports seats, adaptive chassis control, 11 kW charger for alternating current, six exterior colours, Head-up Display with augmented reality, wheels with 235 mm width, etc.
The combinations of battery (with liquid cooling) and motor (synchronous and located on the rear axle) for the CUPRA Born are based on an access version with 45 kWh capacity, which allows travelling 338 km per full charge and 150 hp of power (Accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.9 seconds).
The next level already has an energy accumulator of 58 kWh, which achieves a range of 416 km, and an engine that develops 204 or 231 hp depending on the version (from 0 to 100 km / h 7.3 or 6, 6 seconds). The highest performance is provided by a 77 kWh battery that reaches 536 km without being depleted and is associated with a 231 hp engine(from 0 to 100 km / h in 7 seconds). Only in the latter case can a continuous current recharge at 125 kW be carried out, which translates into a recovery of 100 km every 7 minutes.
